Herbert Gomba said this on Tuesday during his State of the Harare City address.

"We are no longer going to continue sponsoring Harare City FC as we have other priorities.
For next season, I appeal to Harare City FC to look for sponsorship somewhere else and not from us."

The City of Harare’s residents were happy with the announcement, and the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) came on in support of the move saying that although as it is important to sponsor development in sports, the council should prioritize service delivery.

Harare City currently has one of the best paid sports personnel within Zimbabwe, Lloyd Chitembwe their head coach who joined the club from Caps United in huge money plus benefits move.

However, during the time of Bernard Manyenyeni as Mayor, the Harare City Council made a similar announcement, but the word was not fulfilled, thus some sect of the people was skeptic in regards to the announcement. Source: Pindula
