New Zimbabwe Senior
Warriors coach, Joey Antipas, has defended his Warriors squad
selection for the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier against Somalia to be
played in two legs, in Djibouti (Ethopia), and Zimbabwe, in the early
days of September 2019.

Joey Antipas who’s
also Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League side Chicken Inn coach, was faced
with serious criticism from the Zimbabwe football community over an
‘unpopular squad selection’ in which he left out Zimbabwe
Warriors veteran players, that include the country’s goal machine,
Knowledge Musona, and the usual first choice goalkeeper, George
Chigova.
But Antipas came out
to say his team is ‘youthful and balanced’.
“One thing I don’t
want to do is comment about the players who are missing (on the
squad). All I will comment on is on the team that is going. The team
is a youthful side, it’s a balanced team,” he said speaking to
the NewsDay.
“I would say I
believe they will definitely do the business in Somalia, but the main
thing was to create more of a player base for the substantive coach
who will come in.” he also said.
Zimbabwe plays
Somalia in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 preliminary round qualifiers
on the 2nd and the 10th of September 2019.
