COSAFA Cup 2019: Results - Summary Malawi into quarterfinals, SA boot player out of squad, Warriors start training

Mozambique played their last match of COSAFA Cup 2019 yesterday against Malawi at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Malawi were winners of the COSAFA Cup Group B and the team will progress to play in the quarterfinals, against Zambia on Sunday at Princess Magogo Stadium.

C.Kaonga opened the scoring for Group B leaders, Malawi, in the 31st minute and Mozambique equalised through  Joao in the  90 minute.

Gerald Phiri was named man of the match.

In the other Group B match played yesterday, Namibia were winners over  Seychelles in the match played at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Both Namibia and Sychelles are out of the 2019 COSAFA Cup tournament.

General News:

South Africa's forward, Phakamani Mahlambi, has been booted out of the Bafana Bafana squad for the COSAFA Cup 2019.

Reports are that Phakami was caught under the influence in his body of prohibited substances for the squad.

But Notoane denied the allegation saying,

“It’s not the case,”

“To my knowledge that is not the reason. Yes he is out, but it’s for other reasons.” read more at Kick Off.

And Zimbabwe Warriors began their training in South Africa at George Campbell High School in Ethekwini.

The Warriors who are the current COSAFA Cup Champions from 2018 play Comoros in the quarter finals on Saturday 1 June.
