Highlanders FC thump Dynamos to lift Uhuru Cup


Marking three defeats in a row, for arguably Zimbabwe's biggest footballing club, Dynamos FC, was todays beating by Highlanders FC at the National Sports Stadium in a hyped cup game that kicked off at 15:00 and progressed well until the end.

Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC were playing for the Independence Day Cup 2019, in a match which is the country's biggest sporting event for the celebration held on the date, 18 April, every year marking Zimbabwe's colonial independence anniversary.

The teams played a goalless first half and in the second half Highlanders FC scored to clinch the lead through Bukhosi Sibanda in the 49th minute.

Dynamos's Jimmy Tigere failed to capitalise on a penalty awarded in the 70th minute after Highlander's Mbongeni Ndlovu handled the ball in the penalty area, Tigere hit the cross bar from the penalty spot.

Highlanders FC scored their second goal of the game in the 75th minute through Tinashe Makanda, capitalising the end of a neat counter-attack.
