ZNSSA drags Zimbabwe Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry to High Court over hosting of Cosafa Cup 2019

Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association (ZNSSA) is taking, Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation minister, Kirsty Coventry, to the High Court in order to challenge her communication of the Zimbabwe's Football Association & Zimbabwe's Government decision to reject the country of hosting of the COSAFA Cup in 2019. The ZNSSA leader would like the High Court of Zimbabwe to issue a Declaration Order to void the announcement made by Kirsty Coventry,

The High Court Application reads:

"The respondent [Kirsty Coventry] on February 18, 2019 made an announcement that ZIFA would not host the 2019 edition of the COSAFA senior men’s football tournament scheduled to be hosted in Zimbabwe,’’

Nyatanga said in his application. The respondent’s announcement of her decision on behalf of the Zimbabwe Government and ZIFA is improper and beyond the scope of her powers in terms of the SRC Act. The decision was not for the respondent to make or announce as ZIFA had only sought Government guarantee in order to make an informed decision.’

However, if the Declaration Order is granted, it's unlikely that the moves by ZNSSA will change the stance by 'Zimbabwe' not to host the Cosafa Cup in 2019. For, the reason for denying the offer is that the deal presented for hosting the Cosafa Challenge Cup is not good for the Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Football Association.
