News: Zimbabwe Warriors Coach Sunday-Chidzambwa Nominated for 2018 Annual National Sports Awards

Sunday Chidzambwa who is the current Zimbabwe Men's Senior Soccer Team Coach has been nominated for the Annual Sports Awards (2018) among two other coaches from other sports in the country.

The Annual National Sports Awards (ANSA) recognises and celebrates highest sports accomplishments in 16 varying categories by Zimbawean athletes, administrators and technical officials. The Annual National Sports Awards are sponsored by Delta Beverages including other partners.

The ANSA 2018 'award' ceremony will be held late in March (2019).

Sunday Chidzambwa who is in his second stint with the Zimbabwe's National Soccer Team bags on his quite succesful run with the Warriors in 2018 to win the award, Chidzambwa won the Cosafa Cup in the year, and currently the warriors are leading in Group B on 8 match points of the qualification round of the Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt (2019).

The Annual National Sports Awards Nominees for Coach of the Year Award are as follows:

Gilbert Nyamutsamba(Sevens Rugby)
Lloyd Makunde (Netball Senior Team)
Sunday Chidzambwa(Football)

However, some sections of the news media questioned Sunday Chidzambwa's nomination, saying it's unexpected for coaches of sporting teams nominated in the 'Team of the Year' category to miss out on the spot to a coach of a team that doesn't deserve that recognition.

"...The biggest one was that all of a sudden rowing coach Rachel Davies was deemed ineligible to be nominated for the title. This is in spite of her winning the Coach of The Year job in 2016.

Her team along with the Netball Gems and Rugby Sevens Squad have been nominated for teams of the year. The coaches for those sides have been picked for Coach of the Year.

And who gets her slot? Sunday Chidzambwa. Sure he won the Cosafa Cup again but one competitive win in the Africa Cup of Nations ties made it all a farce that he gets the slot...". 3 Men On A Boat
