The Harare City Council according to local news media has set aside USD $1.4 million for the initial phase leading into the construction of a new stadium in the 'City of Harare', specifically, Highglen (near Budiriro & Glen Norah), within the next four years.
The state-of-the-art stadium will host high profile sporting events, and will be named Highglen Stadium.
Michael Chideme, the Harare City Council spokesperson, revealed to the media that a budget for the stadium has been set aside and plans are underway to transform the area.
“This facility will be known as Highglen Stadium. The reason is to decentralise the city’s sporting infrastructure because you find that in that part of the city there is no recognised sporting infrastructure.
“You will also realise that there is a big shopping mall in that area, but it lacks patronage because there is no activity.
“So, this stadium will help make the area lively,” he said. Source Herald
