News: Caf Moves Africa Cup of Nations Dates

Africa Cup of Nations 2019 has faced yet another shift; this time it's in the dates for the holding of the tournament.  The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the 2019 AFCON finals will be delayed by a week from the initial hosting date.

Afcon 2019 will now start on 21 June and ends on 19 July (2019). The tournament had been scheduled to start on the 14 June and end 13 July 2019.

The reason for the shift in dates is that a number of North African countries taking part in Afcon 2019 asked CAF to delay the competition for a week to accomodate the ramadan holiday and the Eid Al-Fitr holiday.

Ramadan holiday is an annual observance for the Muslims which is core to their belief

A Caf Emergency Committee meeting on the 27th of January reached the decision to move the competition in order to accomodate the events.

Afcon's Group Stage round draw wich will have 24 teams in Africa will be held on Friday 12 April 2019 after the final round of tournament qualifiers is played.
