FC Platinum head into CAF-Champions League First Round: Preview; Faces tough opponent which just knocked out last seasons' semi-finalists

Otoho D'oyo (Congo Brazzaville) are FC Platinum's opponents for the first round of 2018-19 Total-Caf Champions League. Otoho D'Oyo go into the encounter having defeated CD Primeiro de Agosto (Angola) who knocked out FC Platinum on an aggregate of 5-1 in the 2018 CL preliminary round and ended up semi-finalists of the edition, where it was defeated by current CL holders Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia) 4 - 3 on aggregate. Otoho won against Primeiro on CL's away goals rule on an aggregate of 4-4. While FC Platinum edged past CNaPS Sport (Madagascar) 2-1 on aggregate to draw a step closer to their 2018/19 goal of reaching the group stages.

FC Platinum begin the first round away in Congo Brazaville and will battle in the face of negative expectations; Patrick Andrianambololona (coach CNaPS Sport) in his post CL match comment at Mandava ruled out Platinum getting past Otoho, "There were some issues with the referees. I am sorry to say this, but there are some goals that we scored in Madagascar that were denied. The refeering was not fair at all, and there was a red card that was supposed to be given, but it wasn't. I don't see them doing well in the next round because it's tough and they won't stand it".

Norman Mapeza (FC Platinum coach) also lamented team fatigue and his personal experience as draw-backs going into the encounter, “My worry now is for the boys, they have been playing since January, it’s now 12 months and our recovery programme helped the boys very well”.

“We are still a young club unlike Dynamos who started to play in the Champions League in 1981 but only to be in the final in 1998. We are just seven years old and people have started talking.

“We are still learning, even if we go to the next round and we don’t do well. The boys are learning, it’s different level of football, this is difficult. These guys are learning, how many guys are playing for the national team? One. So where will they get experience. I also need to get that experience.

“The club also needs experience, so we are learning and along the way we will get what we are looking for. We might reach the final of this tournament maybe in 50 years’ time when I am no longer with this club or maybe in 12 years’ time. But this club and myself we need that experience,” he said, (Hmetro).

However, #PPP are likely to rise against the odds and hold off Otoho considering, the undisputable ZPSL season in which they only fell-short 4 points to match record points in the competition set by Caps United, and their dominance in domestic cups.

Otoho D'oyo vs FC Platinum date and kick off time are set to be announced in due course.
