Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League Round-up, Quick Stats, Top Goal Scorers, 2019 Preview.

The 39th edition of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League came to a close on the 24th of November when most teams played their 34th matches of the season. FC Platinum are the winners with 78 league points. Ngezi Platinum FC 65 points, Chicken Inn 57 points, Triangle 56 points come behind respectively in the top four on the log.

FC Platinum came short by a single point to match 2004's Caps United's record in a 16 team league season, (FC Platinum got 78 in an 18  team league year), & the club also managed to defend its representation of Zimbabwe at the CAF Champions League 2018/19 from 2017/18. FC Platinum will go on to face CNaPS Sport in the opening encounter on 28 November & the team recently announced their squad.

Dominant 'champions of the past', Highlanders finished 5th (51 points), Caps United were placed 8th at (48 points - matched to 9th placed  Harare City), and Zimbabwe's 'biggest side' which survived relegation a number of times this season managed to hang on to position 11 with 'respectable' 42 points - considering the team's woes.

In the relegation zone, losing its last 5 matches, on position 18 Shabanie with only 19  points, 17th is Mutare City on 23 points, 16th- Bulawayo City FC-32 points, and on the 15th is Nichrut -36 points. Nichrut mantained good form in its last five matches, winning four and drawing one, on their last match, Nichrut beat Dynamos 3 - 0 (on the last day of the season).

Yadah (41 points), Bulawayo Chiefs (39 points), and Chapungu United (39 points), had to play to the last date in order to secure their spots for the 2019 Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.

Teams that were in safe zones on the last day of the season were, ZPC Kariba10th, Black Rhinos 7th, & Herentals 6th.

Winners, FC are likely to be handed the usual prize money (since 2014) of USD$100 000, while Ngezi Platinum FC will take in an amount estimated at USD$70 000, and the leagues's last four will rack in USD$5000 each, teams in the 'mid-table' will get respective amounts.

The Top 5 Goal-Scorers in the 2018 ZPSL were:
1). Rodwell Chinyengetere (FC Platinum) 17
2). Lameck Nhamo (Triangle United) 14
3). David Chiunga (ZPC Kariba) 13
4). Lot Chiunga (Black Rhinos) 9
5). Ralph Matema (Yadah) 9

Season dates & encounters of 2019's ZPSL are expected to be announced in January 2019, the season might be affected by the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations which be held in Cameroon from June to July. And, just note, Zimbabwe is likely to take part in the competition, needing at least a draw in the last match against Congo (23 March 2019) to secure qualification.

Ngezi Platinum and Dynamos will go into the new season with new coaches, Ngezi Platinum, dropped coach Tonderayi Ndiraya for Clifton Kadurira with only four matches of the season remaining. Kadurira is expected to earn the championship. He has promised that the team will not be selling any of its players on the transfer window ahead of the huge task. Dynamos will be weighing options between signing interim coach Lyoyd Chigowe on a permanent deal, or signing a new coach. Although Chigowe helped the team survive relegation, Dynamos struggled to win in over 50% of matches he was in charge, and that is likely to have negative effect on the club assessment of his capability.

Dates for the 2018 PSL Awards are also yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Chicken Fc held its awards today, and the following awards were handed. https://soccerzimbabwe.blogspot.com/2018/11/chicken-inn-fc-holds-end-of-season.html
